Today’s guest is Craig Ballantyne, whom I have been looking forward to having on my podcast for quite some time. He is a fascinating individual who is a productivity and success transformation guru and originally hailing from Ontario, Canada.
Craig is also the Author of Perfect Day Formula – How to Own and Control Your Life.
In 2001, he created the Turbulence Training program, geared towards getting people exercise at home. He did a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and started writing for Men’s Health Magazine.
While building his fitness business, he hired a coach in 2006 and realized his biggest regret – having waited for quite too long to hire a business coach! Having one brought him exponential results and he advises everyone who is in business to get a coach as soon as they can.
In 2006, the first question his business coach asked him was what did he think his business would look like in 5 years and he answered he wanted to have one like Early to Rise, a very popular newsletter.
In 2010, a friend asked him what did he want his future career to look like. And again, his answer was to have something like Early to Rise.
Six months later, his friend was at a seminar with Mark Ford, the owner of Early to Rise who mentioned that he wanted to stop doing the business. His friend was quick to tell Mark about Craig being interested to buy the business.
Exactly 5 years, 3 months and 17 days after he answered his business coach he wanted his business to be like Early to Rise, he bought Early to Rise from its owner, Mark Ford.
Having been hands on in running his businesses, Craig shares the 5 pillars of success, which are:
- Better planning and preparation
- Professional accountability
- Social support
- Meaningful incentive
Craig’s favorite book is the Art of Living by Sharon Lebell, a classical manual on virtue, happiness and effectiveness.
Just like many of highly-successful individuals, his daily rituals include waking up early and focus on his #1 priority, which he calls his Magic time. It’s a time of the day where in an hour or two, he gets 3x work done than any other time of the day. He explains further that if ever he starts writing before 6:00am, he would be able to write 2000 words that will take him the whole afternoon if he starts doing it at 2:00pm.
