Alright so it is now February and if I was to hazard a guess that some (or even all!) of your goals are not quite on track to achieving them, would I be far wrong?
You can join the “same thing every year” brigade who find comfort that they are among the majority of the human race. But that is ok if you are happy to be amongst the “also rans”!! Harsh? Yes, but true!
So, now that I have made you feel bad, what can you do to make your goals happen?
Well, it is not just one thing – it is a combination of factors. But I can guarantee you one element that is critical and fundamental – having rituals!
Every highly successful person I have met or read about all highlight the importance of rituals.
If your goal is to get fit and go for a run every day, then you must create the ritual of having your runners by your bed so you just roll out and step into them. If you have to go looking for them, the chance of procrastination arising increases.
If your goal is to broaden your mind and study some subject then it will be seriously impeded by your ritual of arriving home every evening and either pouring yourself a glass of wine or plonking down in front of the TV.
If your goal is to improve the quality of your relationship with your partner, then your ritual of spending hours online doing social media will most certainly get in the way.
You see, we all have our rituals – we just don’t call them that! Many of our rituals do us more harm than good.
But the good news is that you can create rituals that help you to make your goals happen. The choice is yours!
So, now over to you. Take each of your goals and spend some time deciding what rituals will serve you well every day to make sure you progress.
You see it is these small, incremental actions that will dictate your success. Success is not an overnight event, it is caused by doing the simple things every day – but they are the right things!
