Harry is also known as “Harry the Fish Guy” and the “fish” part refers to the famous fish market in Seattle, Pikes Place Fish Market. Why is this market so successful?
Well, they have created a place that is fun to work at and fun to shop in – sounds simple, doesn’t it?
Pikes have done it so well it is one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in North America and is the most successful fish market – even though it has other fish markets selling the same fish at the same price within a radius of a couple of miles.
What is their philosophy? Down to 4 key elements according to Harry:
- You choose your attitude every day – it’s up to you.
- Play – make it part of the process. Fun is an integral part of the work, not separate from it.
- Be there – for your customers, your people. So, you need to understand your “why”
- Include everyone in the fun.
Harry liked their philosophy so much he integrated it into his name!!
