Podcast #122: The Power of Masterminds

Aaron Walker

Today’s guest on the Winning Teams podcast is a return guest and we are delighted to have him back. He is Aaron Walker, a veteran businessman who lives in Nashville, Tennessee and is a serial entrepreneur. Aaron is also the founder of the company, “View From the Top” and mastermind group, “Iron Sharpens Iron”.

Aaron has created many successful businesses over the years. He achieved all this through a great support network – mastermind group, and his own hard work. Aaron did not have the proverbial “silver spoon” in his youth –  he started out from humble beginnings.

“Big things come from small beginnings.” as Aaron says.

But not everything has been easy sailing for Aaron. He also faced challenges but one tragic incident changed his life forever on August 1, 2001. It made him think, “What would happen to my legacy had that been me?” Listen here to the story

Aaron was able to bounce back. When he retired at 50, a couple of his friends from his mastermind group – Dave Ramsey and Dan Miller to name a few, suggested that he start coaching. He was reluctant at first but he decided to go ahead..

Now, his coaching business is flourishing. Aaron created mastermind groups to cope with the increase in workload, instead of doing 1:1. Aaron also knew that mastermind groups would benefit his clients as it did for him for 20 years.

In this episode, Aaron talks more about:

  • What are mastermind groups and how to join his own mastermind group, “Iron Sharpens Iron”?
  • Isolation is the enemy of success.
  • The distinction between coaching and mentoring from Aaron’s perspective.
  • The four attributes to success in life – grit, authenticity, determination, and perseverance.

Book Recommendation, Habits and Where to Get in Touch:

Aaron could list a whole plethora of books but Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss is an amazing book he has recently read and recommends.

He is also a Christian by faith so Aaron starts his day reading the Bible. He spends his time in meditation, prayer, praise and worship and scripture memorization. His work also follows a regimented schedule where days are planned 3 months in advance in Google documents.
