Debra Ruh is the Founder of Ruh Global Communications which is the platform for Debra to get her message as a Global Disability Inclusion Strategist out to the world.
The catalyst for Debra’s work as an ambassador for the disabled was the birth of her daughter, Sara, with Down Syndrome.
Debra was outraged when she was told that perhaps the pinnacle of expectations for Sara was to push around supermarket trolleys! She was outraged and determined there and then to do something about it.
The consequence of that outrage was the foundation of Tec Access where 80% of the team were technologists with disabilities.
Interestingly, when asked, Debra said that the main challenges in the business had nothing to do with dealing with the disabilities of her staff! The issues were the usual business challenges – cash flow, achieving targets, having the right processes etc.
Eventually Debra sold Tec Access and founded Ruh Global Communications to continue to advocate for the disabled in the workplace – something she is well-positioned to do as she is now regarded by Klout as among the Top 10 influencers online.
Now, that gives her some platform to shout from.
Listen to Debra’s talk passionately about being that advocate for the disabled.
Debra’s book choice is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. You can find out more about Debra at ruhglobal.com and on various social media.
