Podcast #114: Activating HyperGrowth in your Business with Gene Hammett

Gene Hammett

Today’s guest is Gene Hammett. Gene has earned over 30 million dollars on his journey to starting multiple million dollar companies. He also recently wrote a book, The Trap of Success, and hosts a podcast, Leader in The Trenches. In addition, he has a weekly column in Inc Magazine.

Gene found himself without the courage to break from what he had but it wasn’t what he really wanted. He didn’t want to let go of what he had attained and achieved to pursue something bigger and better, that he potentially really wanted. This is what he calls the trap of success.

In this episode of The Series of Winning Teams Podcast, we discuss being radically transparent in order to grow rapidly, the importance of building trust and why so many people are afraid to be vulnerable and truly transparent.

In this episode hear more from Gene on these topics:

Employees are coming on board to change the world, not to gain a paycheck.

Sometimes getting buy-in requires relinquishing some control. If you allow hands-on involvement in developing the process, you are allowing more ownership over the goal and process.

Really understanding your team requires vulnerability, something that many people are afraid of. When you have the courage to be vulnerable with your employees you’re able to figure out who they really are and what is holding them back.

Transformational leadership is the ability to transform the others’ thinking and the way they see the world. If you are able to transform the thinking of those employees, they will be able to produce at a much higher rate for the company.

People tend to focus too much on skillset and not enough on mindset.

Sometimes your skills don’t hold you back, your fear or your mind might be holding you back. What gets in the way is the behavior. If you can change the behavior, which is the mindset, the rest is the easy part. Imagine a world where leaders are evolved and can have a conversation with someone where they can see their mindset is holding them back.

In this episode, Gene shares his love for the book The One Thing. The question is ‘What is the one thing you can do today that makes everything else easier or not even an issue tomorrow?’ It is really about the one thing.

Look at your business and your life. What is the lynchpin to your success? As a leader, what if you could understand that one thing for each of your employees?

Gene has a couple daily rituals he partakes in each day. He wakes up every day in gratitude and gives thanks for life, health, his wife, family, and business. Before he even gets out of bed or checks email, he loves to meditate. He started with guided meditations. Now he sets a timer for 20 minutes and turns on music and meditates without the help of guided meditation.
